Yet another avowedly religious, conservative, moralizing, politician got caught last week for cheating on his wife and lying about it. Sex scandals and politicians have always gone together, but lately the problem is starting to look like an epidemic. In mid-June we were treated to the marital cheating scandal of, and possible pay off of hush money by, Senator John Ensign, R-Nev, but that story was quickly eclipsed by the far more putrid marital cheating scandal of South Carolina's Governor, Mark Sanford.
Predictably, Sanford was one of the vocal critics who called for the impeachment of President Bill Clinton when Clinton was caught having an extra-marital affair. Sanford went on record as calling Clinton's behavior 'reprehensible,' and he specifically said that Clinton should be impeached because the voters could no longer trust him. Sanford also opposed gay civil unions (you know, to protect the 'sanctity of marriage') and even voted against a bill that would preserve sites linked to the Underground Railroad. What makes Governor Sanford stand out, even in a crowded field of conservative, religious, philandering politicians and liars is his strange urge to give weepy and gushy details about his gross behavior to the press and public. After finally admitting that he did lie about his trip and his extra-marital affair, Sanford didn't have the sense to shut up. In the parlance of twenty-something cell phone addicts, it was WTMI - or way too much information.
We don't want to know if this woman is your 'soul mate' Governor. We're not happy to know that you have 'crossed the line' before, but not quite as far as this time. This isn't a truth or dare, slumber party game. And we certainly don't think that you should have told us that you're 'trying to fall back in love' with your wife. We can only hope, for your sake, that you have no firearms in the governor's mansion. After all, no jury would ever convict your wife if there were to be some type of unfortunate gun accident.
And then there is issue of the check that you paid to reimburse the taxpayers of South Carolina for some of the expenses of a trip to Brazil which was supposed to be for the purpose of political business but turned out to be, at least in part, for monkey business. So you were stealing from the financially hard-hit taxpayers of South Carolina, while you were cheating on your wife, and lying to your family, but you still feel that you have to tell us that this is 'a love story' and a 'tragic one' at that? What's tragic is that you were ever elected to a position of power over the people of South Carolina. Since you refuse to resign, could you please do us all a favor and shut up?
Will conservative Republicans ever 'get' the fact that no one likes an adulterer, but adulterers who are also sitting in judgment of others before they, themselves, get caught doing the same or worse, are not only much more hypocritical and untrustworthy, they also giving religion a bad name.

Anybody can say they are a Christian. Saying so doesn't make it necessarily so, no more than standing in a garage and proclaiming yourself to be a Rolls Royce will make you a car! A Christian is one who follows Christ, not the devil. This is an ungodly man and he disrespected his wife in more ways than one; then to stand up there in public and say, in order for him to be able to reconcile with his wife he'd have to try to fall in love with her again. If a man (and he's not even a GOOD looking man) stood up in public and disrespected me that way, he wouldn't have to try to fall in love all over again with me. Not only that, but his poor "butt" is not the one with the money. He uses tax payers money and his wife's money to commit adultery in and out of this country. Dirty dog! I don't think the whore he was sleeping around with wants his tired old tail any more! HOME WRECKERS DO THAT! Break up marriages then go on about their business with somebody else. Whores only want MARRIED MEN!
What makes that jackass think he has counseling credentials or abilities? If anybody ever needed counseling it's the governor. And if a marriage has more than two people in it, it's going to fail anyway. He counsels by sleeping with her to show her how to keep her marriage from failing??????? Well, if this is how you keep a marriage from failing, maybe the governor's wife needs to sleep with his whore's husband. What a cheat and liar! I wonder if he tried to sell his whore the Brooklyn Bridge? Old people don't seem to think that they can catch AIDS by sleeping around.
