Natural secrets for anti-aging

Society puts a lot of pressure on us to keep looking young and beautiful. Plastic surgery is at an all time high.  But if you're not prone to going under the knife, there are a few key things that you can do that will help to keep you young and vivacious.  Here are the secrets:

1. Maintain a healthy weight:  If you are overweight, try a healthy diet program that suits your lifestyle,  to help you lose the weight sensibly.

2. Exercise!  The more you move, the better.  If you can only manage ten or twenty minutes, three times a week, you will benefit.  Try to work up to doing some exercise most days- thirty minutes per session would be a great goal. Find something that's fun, whether you prefer a club setting, yoga, dancing or DVD's.    

3. Drink green tea:  It's loaded with Antioxidants.  It has caffeine, so you can really on it for a boost when you have that mid-afternoon slump.Try it iced with a little lemon for a refreshing treat.

4. Eat whole foods:  Stay away from processed foods.  Eat whole grains, like whole wheat bread, oatmeal & brown rice.  Be adventurous and try unusual grains like quinoa or spelt.  If you go to a store with bulk grains, you can really get creative. Include fresh fruits and vegetable in every meal.   You can find great recipes here.

5. Drink red wine: Some call it a miracle elixir. Sure it's old news that the substance in wine, called resveratrol is great for your heart, but there's more.  Last June, "Science One", reported that  a glass of red wine or any substance with resveratrol may slow down the aging of the heart.In addition to this, resveratrol reduces the number of fat cells and may one day be used to treat obesity.  Just don't over do it- that will cause you problems.

 6. Probiotics:  Where do I begin to sing the praises of probiotics?  They are good for your digestive system, they can ward off a yeast infection, even boost your immune system.  You can buy them in tablets, but I always prefer a natural source.  Just buy some yogurt.  Eat some everyday.  And when you choose your yogurt, check to see how many types of live cultures it contains- the more the better. These are friendly bacteria.

7.Maintain your blood sugar:  Stay away from sweets, processed foods and too many starches.  Eat slowly.  Try to include coffee, cinnamon or chocolate in your daily diet.  They help regulate blood sugar and they're delicious too!

8.Omega 3:  You must include Omega 3 in your diet.   It's been know to benefit everything from heart disease, high cholesterol, arthritis, depression and more.  You buy tablets, but again- I believe the natural source is best.  Try eating wild salmon twice a week.  Other fish are good sources, just be wary of mercury content. 

Most important of all- enjoy your life, spend time with family and friends, try to live a decent life and follow this favorite adage of mine:

    I too cannot say enough good things about probiotics for digestive and immune health. They are wonderful! I also don’t really enjoy taking tablets, but there are much higher probiotic counts and strain variety in supplements. So, I compromised and bought my probiotic supplement in capsule form. They are easy to take apart and sprinkle in my yogurt or other room temperature food (no heated foods, because it can activate the bacteria before it reaches your gut) and are tasteless.
