How to eat at McDonald's when your kids have food allergies

When you're traveling through Richmond with a member of the twelve and under crowd there's always one thing you can count on-sooner or later, you're going to gravitate toward those golden arches. When you're looking for lunch on the fly McDonald's can be the answer to your dreams. For parents of kids with food allergies, however, eating at McDonald's is more like a beautiful nightmare.
When you're grocery shopping it's easy enough to pick up a package off the shelf and check out the ingredients. It's not so easy when the food lands on the table (or in this case, the attractive paper wrapper) pre-made. McDonald's new policy of offering apple dippers and fruit bowls makes it a little easier to grab something for your kids when you're on the road, but there's only so long snacking's going to cut it-and you'd probably have an easier time trying to scale Everest in a pair of stilettos than trying to convince your kids they really don't want what the fast food king has to offer!
The good news is, Mickey D's is finally catching up with the times. Along with their handy-dandy menu they've also posted the nutritional information for their menu items on the web. When you get a chance, pay a visit to McDonald's USA and read through their menu. Along with a complete listing of ingredients (including lectins) they've also highlighted common allergens like milk, soy and wheat to make it easy to identify what your kids have and what they can't.
Armed with a list of do's and don'ts you can walk in the doors prepared and enjoy all the convenience of fast food without all the headache of trying to figure out what's going to set off your kids' allergies.
