American Airlines' regional affiliate, American Eagle, has announced plans to add first-class seating in its Bombardier CRJ-700 aircraft beginning in July. This is the same aircraft that Northwest Airliines, now Delta Air Lines, installed 12 first-class in when they began taking delivery in 2008 for Compass Airlines. American Eagle will offer 9 first-class seats on the aircraft with four rows of three seats. The aircraft will be positioned at both the Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago O'Hare hubs.

Minneapolis/St. Paul passengers will be able to take advantage of this new cabin configuration to/from Chicago. Other cities to be served by the aircraft from O'Hare include Atlanta, Washington Reagan National, Newark Liberty International, Houston Bush Intercontinental, Oklahoma City, Philadelphia, San Antonio and Salt Lake City. From Dallas/Fort Worth the CRJ-700 will be scheduled for flights to/from Cleveland, Milwaukee, Bentonville/Springdale (Arkansas) and Little Rock.

In addition to the first-class seating, American Eagle will also offer meal service to the 9 passengers sitting in the forward cabin. The CRJ-700 is one of the most comfortable and quiet regional jets currently in operation in the United States, and has also become popular with Delta Connection passengers.

The regional jets that I have been on are like tuna cans. Either these are larger or it is a very cramped first-class.

Actually, Billie, they are much nicer with 3 across seating in F class. One on the left and two on the right. Pretty similar to F class comfort on a 737 or Airbus 319 or 320. Leather seats too make it better.

"This is the same aircraft that Northwest Airliines, now Delta Air Lines, installed 12 first-class in when they began taking delivery in 2008 for Compass Airlines." - This is incorrect.

Compass Airlines operates only the Embraer 175. The E175 is a much roomier and nicer aircraft than any CRJ aircraft types.
