A380, world's largest airliner returning to JFK in the fall

The double-deck Airbus A380 will be returning to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport in November, courtesy of Air France. There was earlier A380 service from Emirates on the JFK/Dubai route began last August but only lasted a few months when the recession dampened demand. The route has been flown by a smaller Boeing 777 since then. Air France will place the aircraft on a Paris to New York routing and there is talk that Emirates may go back to the massive aircraft for the summer of 2010. That would make JFK the only airport with two A380 routes, but it remains to be seen if that will materialize.

Emirates moved the A380 to the Toronto-Dubai run when the demand from New York wasn't sufficient to justify the service. When the JFK service ended, Los Angeles was the only remaining A380 city in the U.S., with non-stops being offered to Sydney, Australia by Qantas.

Tim Clark, CEO of Emirates has spoken of the carrier's desire to add service from Washington, D.C., Seattle, Boston and Chicago, but doesn't expect the airline to increase their U.S. service anytime soon.

The A380 begin airline service in 2007 for Singapore Airlines. Seating in a three-class configuration holds 525 passengers, and in all-coach the aircraft can accommodate an incredible 853 passengers. Putting this is perspective, the Boeing 747-400 seats 535 in an all-economy configuration.

JFK the only airport with two A380 routes - if you ignore LHR, SIN and SYD.
