This signals the end run for Milan fashion week 2012. The clothes shown over the past few days will be in store for Fall 2012 or in lay terms, these garments will be hitting the racks around mid-June thru September for fall selling and wearing....that is to say provided we don’t have Indian summer until November. So no matter where you shop, be it Barneys, Bergdorf’s, Bloomingdales, Saks, Jeffrey or eponymous boutiques or for that matter anywhere else, you will either be seeing these exact items or be feeling their influence.
I am a believer. This season the collection comes into its own with a variety of looks that seem to sum up the season in Milan. Much to the credit of the designers, the presentation offered alternatives rather than a single silhouette played to death.
I applaud the variety of shapes and combinations as not everyone wants to wear reed slim suits nor does everyone want to be swallowed by full shapes. Yes, there were the requisite slim suiting with narrow legged pants and then there was the shaped jacket with a fuller pant, and then there was a slim jacket with a high waisted full pant which is borrowed from women’s collections of yore. Suffice it say, a lot of bases are covered here and covered well without being too over the top which made it all conceivably wearable….there is a shock for you!
There were tons of outerwear pieces of all proportion but what struck me the most were the fuller almost cape like shapes bordering on the balmacaan. It is a great alternative to the rigidly designed Chesterfield like reefer coats and to the dropped jackets of every possible description.
My take is simple, if the brand continues on this path; they will become a force to reckon with at retail.
