On Wednesday night's episode of "American Idol," Michael Lynche caused a deluge of tears from judge Kara DioGuardi, who said his rendition of Maxwell's "This Woman's Work" was so powerful that she couldn't hold back her emotions.
Lynche was the final male contestant to sing on last night's show, vying for a chance to make the all-important Top 12. Dressed in a black blazer and blue jeans, Lynche hit all the right notes singing in front of judges Randy Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres, Simon Cowell, and DioGuardi.
As the song picked up steam, Lynche grabbed the microphone from the stand and really got animated. Performing leaps and knee bends--which is no easy task for a big man--Lynche finished the song in dramatic, falsetto fashion.
DioGuardi, so taken with Lynche's performance, was literally brought to tears.
"I've never cried after hearing something like that," she said.
"It's amazing. You were amazing. And it's so relevant for you, and I can feel it. It's your life right now. It's your respect for your wife, what you've gone through...and as a woman who doesn't have a child, I can relate to it so much and it brought me to tears."

I LOVE Michael Lynch! Outstanding performance last night.
I like Kara. I think people need to stop saying she's trying to be like Paula. First off, they are night and day. Paula complimented every one, Kara doesn't. Paula cried many times, Kara does ONCE and now she's "acting like Paula". She's a woman for Christ sakes, they are more emotional. Regardless of gender, why is it so bad to cry? People act like we are allowed to feel all others, and express all others in society, but that one. The only weak individual is the person who is afraid to have another see their tears. Fact is, everyone in the world has cried at one time or another. The other issue I have is people saying Kara is cocky. Um, how about confident and upbeat.
The only people who have issues with people like that are miserable people who probably have a low self esteem, or just aholes who have to put others down to gain energy for themselves. Bonafide losers.
I agree, but who is saying she's trying to be like Paula?
I agree with Chris
First of all, ever since the first time I saw him, felt that big heart in that big body, then heard him sing, I knew this man was a very special person--and it's not just his talented voice--it's his humanity and his adult man taking on the world with a smile, the good times, the tough times. No wonder Kara broke down. Hell, I'm about Mike's size, and I empathize with big dudes everywhere, but that ain't the point.... it's that Big Mike needs, somehow, to continue showing and sharing his heart through his wonderful talents and music. I am in awe of him. How can anyone with a heart and grownup sensibilities NOT love this man. Please, if there's any luck or cosmic justice, let it rain down on this man and his lovely family. He deserves it. They deserve it. And we poor fools out here NEED his heart's instruction. What a man. What a human being. And what a singer. Somebody, please, say "Amen".
