Celebrating Earth Day, Maui-style

Earth Day celebrates 40 years on April 22.  Established in 1970 to bring awareness and appreciation of the Earth’s environment, more and more people and businesses become energy efficient and go green each year.

One of the businesses that's very involved with sustainability is Whole Foods Market in Kahului, Maui.  This year, they have put together a great slate of activities throughout April in celebration of Earth Day.

Celebrating Earth Day - Maui Style:

EARTH MONTH at Whole Foods Market, April 22 – 30

In celebration of Earth Day, Whole Foods Market has partnered with Maui County to encourage shoppers to go plastic-free. Starting on Earth Day, April 22, through the end of the month shoppers who spend $50 or more will receive a free reusable shopping bag while supplies last, limit one per customer.

Additionally, local elected officials, representatives from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Maui County’s Waste Management team will volunteer as “celebrity” grocery baggers, bagging groceries for shoppers at 12 p.m., to discuss and promote the upcoming county-wide ban on plastic bags.
