I know where I'm going and I know the truth, and I don't have to be what you want me to be. I'm free to be what I want.
I have decided to take up boxing! There are two reasons for this, one is to stay fit and the other is to train my mind. Boxing and training the mind, don’t seem to have much to do with each other but I have found that they are actually closely linked. Here are my reasons…
During one of my first training sessions my boxing teacher kept trying to drum it into me that one of the easiest ways to lose a fight is to allow your opponent to infiltrate your thoughts, thus putting you off balance. “Don’t let them get into your head Leon, it’s the end if you do!” To allow your opponent to do or say things that take you out of your game is the first stage towards defeat inside the boxing ring.
He then explained to me that this works in life as well. If we allow outside influences to take us out of our natural game whether it be in our interpersonal relationships, business dealings, or family dynamics we are creating a dangerous imbalance for ourselves. The quote I chose today from Muhammad Ali epitomizes the strength of character that I am striving to acquire.
So, my boxing sessions are serving two purposes, making me stronger physically and hopefully stronger mentally…
