ScotteVest Travel Vest product review - What's in your ScotteVest?

The author wearing her ScotteVest Travel Vest in Idome, UgandaHave you ever seen the movie Mary Poppins? If so you should remember the infamous carpet bag in which Mary Poppins carried all of her belongings when she responded to the Nanny ad. That carpet bag held everything including a lamp and a plant. Well, Mary Poppins' carpet bag has met its match! And the competition isn't even a piece of luggage...

Of all of the travel related products out there, my all-time-favorite is my ScotteVest Travel Vest which comes in a men's and women's version. While there are a number of travel clothing companies in business, ScotteVest is the first one that I've encountered that has put functionality at the top of its features. Functionality includes keeping one's valuables close at hand, and that means pockets. In a press release last year founder and CEO Scott Jordan stated, “I didn’t invent the pocket...I just perfected it.” And perfected it he has. In a rapidly growing line of clothing.

Don't let the fact that it's "just a vest" fool you. While it is an article of clothing, it can be used like a second carry-on when traveling, but without the carry-on restrictions.  In this gadget/tech day that we live in it is increasingly important to travelers to have their gadgets with them. PDAs, mp3 players, netbooks, pocket gaming systems, digital cameras and more are carried around on a daily basis by a growing number of travelers.

And having those things accessible doesn't mean having them in the "overhead bin" where they are off limits during the last hour of the flight. And what if you have to evacuate the plane in an emergency? Understandably, you are forbidden to take any of your carry-on luggage with you during an evacuation. That includes your purse, briefcase, etc. Imagine the nightmare of 300 passengers trying to get their stuff out of the bins and out from under the seats after an emergency landing! But, if your valuables are safely tucked away in the clothing you're wearing, you just get up and leave without that additional loss.

Even if you aren't flying, the Travel Vest and the other items in ScotteVest's line of clothing can't be beat for keeping your valuables secure, out of sight and within reach at all times. I wore my vest on a recent mission trip to Uganda and while there I filmed what I was carrying in my ScotteVest on a regular basis there. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I'll let the video roll and you can see for yourself how versatile the vest is.

Not everyone travels like I do, so what about someone who goes camping or is a photographer or goes out to the shooting range? Check out these two videos to see why this is one item that's a "must have" for all adventure travelers:

The company is very customer oriented and makes full use of social networking sites--and the transparency that goes along with them. Customers are encouraged to share not only their comments (both good and bad) on the products they've purchased, but also to provide ideas for future products as well. CEO Scott Jordan personally responds to questions and comments, even posting video responses and footage of product development sessions as a means of involving customers in the planning and development process.

Check out their sale of the day page (there's a different item on sale every day) and take advantage of their seasonal sales as well. It will be an investment that you won't regret!

Sandi, those x-ray photos really are amazing, seeing everything tucked away. A very informative article. Squeeze in a few more details bout the work you are doing as you travel. Very impressive!!

Truly amazing that so much could be stowed away and within reach. Thanks for sharing this info.

Another amazing thing: on a recent family trip, my mother (the author) stuck my full size (16 inch) laptop into the back pocket while I wasn't looking...The vest is made in such a way that I didn't even know it was there until she leaned her back against me and I thought..."Wait, that's too big to be her net book..hey! Where'd MY laptop go!?!?!?!?" It's amazing how much stuff slips into those pockets without being conspicuous.
