Wend Magazine - one more reason to be proud of Portland
HERE are three more adventure travel websites you may not have gotten to yet. These will certainly give you some food for thought when you are making your next travel plans and they’ll certainly make you rethink what it is you want to get out of a trip. With slants on national travel, humanitarian causes and activism, the following websites will help you help save the world one adventure at a time.
Adventure Drop is brand spanking new to the web (only a couple of weeks!) but you will be oh so glad it is here. The site works as a travel portal connecting you to all of the outdoor and adventure activities in your area – wherever that area may be. With a huge list of activities ranging from scuba and skydiving to canyoneering and bouldering – Adventure Drop is a convenient way to find out what is going on in all 50 states. The site will put you into contact with adventure outfitters and tour guides or will let you create a customized itinerary on a PDF for free if you are looking to go it alone.
The hardworking folks at inside/out have coined the term “humanitourism” with hopes of helping adventure travelers return home with more than just a few pics and trinkets picked up from far away places. inside/out’s goal is to bridge the gap between adventure travel and volunteer vacations by promoting their brand of “humanitourism” by combining humanitarian work with guided adventure travel. The website will give you a ton of ideas if you are thinking of adding some extra meaning to your next adventure and with 2009 trips planned for Kenya and Kilimanjaro, Greece and Guatemala (to name a few), you’ll have plenty to be inspired by.
This relative newcomer to the adventure mag business is based right here in sunny Portland. Wend, which means go – travel – make one’s way, contains some outstanding articles on topics combining activism and awareness with adventure. For example check out the latest edition’s article on a sailing expedition to the heart of a marine eco-disaster. The magazine’s website contains blogs, a trip planner and where to find Wend on magazine racks across the country. This innovative mag is just one more reason to make us Portlanders proud of our town.
