In Miami, Florida there are at least two TV projects going on simultaneously. Examiner.com was represented in south Florida on one of the TV show's sets on Monday, August 29, 2011 and Friday, September 2nd.
Charlie's Angels and Magic City are the two series currently being shot. Magic City is the show featured here. Some of the talent had already been or was going to be part of both shows!
When it comes to acting, some people might not think being an extra or background in a film or on a television show is very important. The person who says that has not been an extra!
There were about 75 background talent used during Friday's shoot, and a few of them did speak with Examiner.com. For right now only one will be represented, and her name is 'Jean.'
Jean, as well as most, if not all the other talent, was required to show up on the previous Monday for a wardrobe fitting, a look-see at hair, and some of the talent, she said, had their hair cut during the fitting. Mostly women's long hair was cut at or above shoulder length, to be curled later.
One lady had waist length hair, and she gave permission for it to be cut quite short. The hair was collected, tied off and was to be donated to an organization (she thought, Locks of Love).
Magic City's era was that of the late '50s, so hair, wardrobe, makeup and accessories had to be perfect for that period.
The show's synopsis is about the darker side of Miami Beach, in the 1950s. It is the revealing of dope dealers, strippers, gangsters, racial tension and intrigue - intrigue both outside and inside the Miramar Hotel.
While walking to and from the set Jean noticed old cars and boats. Such vehicles, she said, looked original, including most of the wardrobe, so the clothing was very fragile and had to be carefully put on and taken off.
The show is shooting in two large buildings that are owned by a boat factory.
One building is used for construction of props, scenery, wardrobe, dining, etc., and the other one houses the studios for the scenes to be shot in, such as different rooms of the Miramar Hotel and hospital.
Some of the principal (main and supporting) talent in the show are Kelly Lynch, Taylor Blackwell, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Christian Cooke, Dominik García-Lorido... more on the cast to be featured later.
Taylor Blackwell celebrated her 13th birthday while on set Friday, and two huge cakes were brought out in the 'hotel lobby' to surprise her.
Jean said that the day she was part of the shoot it was the second episode of season one (1.2). They will be shooting for quite a while, especially if the show is a hit!
