SyFy is currently in pre-production on a new 90 minute series pilot titled "Alphas" aka "Section 8". The network has signed "Lost" director and executive producer Jack Bender as director/executive producer for the action-adventure pilot. The show follows a team of ordinary citizens who possess extraordinary and unusual mental skills and take the law into their own hands.
The show has had a rough 2 year ride to this point. Originally as "Section 8," the drama was first pitched to NBC through BermanBraun's first-look deal there. After NBC decided to pass, the project attracted much interest among the other networks during the summer of 2007, ending up at ABC with a six-episode mid-season order for a potential launch behind "Lost."
The show was in pre-production, and writing on the first episode was underway, when the WGA strike stopped production. After Video game developer TimeGate Studios reached a settlement with ABC over the show's title in March of 2008, the name "Section 8" was abandoned. ABC eventually dropped the show after "increasing discomfort with the show's science fiction elements". Now Syfy has picked it up and renamed the show "Alphas".
Auditions and casting is taking place in Los Angeles for the starring and supporting roles. The details are posted on the following site:
Filming will take place beginning July 12, 2010 in Toronto, Ontario and some principal actor casting and all of the extras will be cast there.
