Thanksgiving ideas under $40: Accessories to use for a chic and happy holiday

Although Thanksgiving is a national holiday, every family has their own traditions that make it unique. However, as the years go by, there are always new things to add to the old ways to create a modern flavor for the season. Here are some accessories that will help make your Thanksgiving easy and chic without interfering with old traditions.

  1. Elementary My Dear Apron--Available at Anthropologie for $38, this apron features a cute houndstooth design as well as two deep pockets to hold cooking utensils and recipe notes. I spotted this on display at the store on 211 S. Beverly Drive.
  2. The G-Spout--A removable spout for any pot or bowl in your kitchen. It's great for portioning out gravy, sauce or cake batter, as well as straining fats off of foods. Plus, it's dishwasher-safe and only $12.95.
  3. Count Your Blessings Board Game--Okay, this is more of a family activity than an accessory, but it's a fantastic tradition to add to your holidays. It's a fun way to find silver linings in your life and the cards help you to find things to be thankful for. Give the online version a try before you buy ($24.99). Plus, the game has a Twitter site, so if you follow @Gratitweets, you can join the worldwide movement to tell people what you're thankful for in 2009.
  4. On the Cuff--These look like bracelets, but they're actually sponges to wear while doing the dishes. No, they're not actually for the dishes themselves, they're designed to keep water from running down your arms while you wash. They'll also help keep your sleeves pushed up and dry. Plus, they're affordable... one pair is $7.99 and a four-pair pack is $24.99.
  5. Bamboo Low Bowl--These eco-friendly bowls are handmade from 100% organically grown bamboo. They're safe for hot and cold foods, and can be cleaned with warm water (nope, not dishwasher safe, sorry). They're available in multiple colors for $29.95. Isn't it time you made your Thanksgiving celebration greener?
  6. Towelocs--These are cute little kitchen/bathroom accessories that keep towels where they belong... on the rack and not on the floor. These are great when you have lots of company in and out of your kitchen and bathroom, especially younger children. Use them to cinch your towel in the middle, creating a loop around the towel rack or oven door handle. They come in multiple colors and designs to match any decor and personality. They come two in a box for $13.99-$15.99.
  7. Huephoria--These handpainted cocktail glasses are available in 40 designs, each sold separately. Create your own set for your home, or order one of each so that your guests don't have to bother with those detachable charms... they just choose which painted glass they want from the start! Each glass is $20 or less.
  8. Grab&Dry, Zip&Dry--If you like accessories to do double duty with their functions, check out the Grab&Dry and Zip&Dry. From Los Angeles-based Just Perfect, Inc, the Grab&Dry is a pair of gloves made from terrycloth, so you can protect your hands from hot dishwater while you dry your Thanksgiving dishes. The Zip&Dry is an apron with a detachable towel zipped onto the bottom, so you can wear the same accessory from food prep to cleanup time. They are available in multiple colors. The products cost $19.99 and $24.99, respectively.
  9. Quickflip--Don't have your Thanksgiving meal quite planned yet? No problem! Give the Quickflip cookbooks a try. There's one for meals and one for veggies. The guides help you know what vegetables are in season, how to store them, and give you alternative recipes for your favorite foods in a healthy way. The books are available for $14.95 and $15.95 each, or together as aset for $27.95.

With a combination of these ideas, you should be well on your way to having a stress-free, chic day with family and friends. Happy Thanksgiving!
