How To: Wear Chunky Jewelry

Madewell Jewel Box Necklace

Bib necklaces, bangles, clip-ons, bar rings, skinny belts? All of this may seem like a foreign language but I am here to translate. This how-to will help take an outfit from boring to beyond words. No need for spending thousands of dollars on this season's Chanel, although one can dream.

Let's start with a classic t-shirt. A 'V-neck" is underrated nowadays. It's a basic piece that screams blank canvas. I recommend a neon color or pastel with a large necklace. Thin  and long is safe, but for the daring fashionista...a chunky 'wow' piece is the perfect statement. If you go with a colored t-shirt remember to keep the necklace to a metal or nude tone, but the classic black, white, and grey deserves a splash of color, hands down.

Cantilever Diamond Bar Ring

Next is a bar ring. For loyal Hills fans, we all can recall miss Lauren Conrad herself with a shameless bar ring she consistently wore spelling the word: Lauren. How appropriate. They made their debut in 2007 and New York based designer Jules Kim had her fair share of creating amazing bar rings. Now they are more popular than ever and are becoming more than just a trend. The ring can be worn as an everyday piece, it's funky and simple. Unless you really want your bar ring to be your new cocktail ring, check out this bad boy... it is not for the faint of heart.

Fiona Paxton Shirley Cuff

The last must-have chunky jewelery piece I recommend is a bangle or two or five. Bangles are great statement pieces for going out, or adding flare to an everyday look. Here's how: pair a simple fabric, like a jersey dress, or denim with a borderline paperweight of a bangle or a half a dozen thin and plain ones will do. A bright gem encrusted bracelet is always a fun choice in moderation as well as a cuff. These bangles must be used wisely, for the reason I like to call, "Doing too much." You cannot be wearing a chunky item on every body part that allows it. Fashion no-no.

In conclusion, there will be times where you may feel like accessories are unnecessary. That changes now, accessories make the ensemble memorable. And a memorable ensemble is the goal of this how-to article: chunky jewelry will add flavor and dimension to your everyday looks. Scout's honor.
