Artist John Van Hamersveld opens Hippie Nation™ Gallery & Records at Fremont Street Experience

Famed artist John Van Hamersveld has been named the “Official Artist of Summer of ’69,” and the opening of his Hippie Nation™ Gallery & Records is part of the Fremont Street Experience’s “Summer of ’69: Vegas or Bust” concert and event series that is taking visitors back 40 years to celebrate the summer of 1969.

The gallery showcases artist Van Hamersveld’s various works including concert posters, digital prints, original drawings, hand-pulled silk screens and a collection of rare vinyl records. He is best known for his prominent 1960 iconic image of the Pinnacle Indian, The Beatles cover for the “Magical Mystery Tour” album, and the poster of the 1966 surf-genre movie, “Endless Summer.” Except for concert nights, the gallery is open only by calling 310-899-3931 for an appointment.

In his capacity as the official artist, Van Hamersveld has created a new Viva Vision show titled, “Signs of Life,” and custom-painted two vintage school buses being used on Fremont Street during the summer-long event that runs through Labor Day weekend.

No strange to the 1969 period, Van Hamersveld’s impressive repertoire of art includes album covers of famed musicians Blondie, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead and KISS, and custom portraits of Eric Clapton and Bono of U2. He is also known as the official artist of Jimi Hendrix. This year, he celebrates his 50-year anniversary as an artist.

The gallery is located next to Mickie Finnz at the base of the Fremont Parking Garage elevators.
