More ways to pay are great, but I hope this doesn't lead to an attempt to eliminate quarter slots -- we need that option, too! And can't the time allowed be increased? It's somewhere between uncomfortable and impossible to complete shopping or have lunch in the hour many meters allow, especially when one has to park blocks away because there is so little parking. Neighborhood business associations should look into how much business -- even LOCAL business -- they lose simply because of that. Generally, I walk and take the bus, but realistically it's hard to walk a mile or more each way to go to a local restaurant, let alone carry heavy purchases, and I'm already a half mile in just getting to Geary or Irving.

Definitely worth a try. It is long overdue for accepting credit card and other means of paying. Who's going to carry $5 of coins to feed the downtown meter? Being able to park in the same spot for long hours at a high rate is also a welcome move. Your wallet hurts but at least you can do so leaglly.

Its all a joke. If anyone was serious they would simply build more parking garages and require new housing and office building to include parking spaces. It is all just another money grab for the greedy politicians sucking every last cent they can get from us.

Well, actually I have a question about parking meters in SF: Why are they free on Sundays? It used to be quiet downtown, such that there wasn't great demand for parking there on Sundays. However, over the last 10 years with many more condos being built there, with events nearly every weekend (including ballgames, where people will park gratis say, at 2nd and Mission and then walk to the ballpark), with shopping all over the place, why are the meters free? Am I missing something? Did God ordain that meters should be free on Sunday :>) Inquiring minds need to know!
