WASHINGTON (Map, News) - Sprint Nextel has begun broadcasting content on its mobile television network, the Reston company announced Monday.

The Sprint Exclusive Entertainment network is the only group of channels broadcast by a mobile carrier using all original programming. The programs average two minutes and focus on sports, music and entertainment news, Sprint said Monday. The network has more than 150 programs, such as a sports show hosted by former National Football League running back Marshall Faulk and a music news show hosted by Rachel Perry, a former video jockey for VH1.

Subscribers to the carrier’s Power Vision data plan receive the content for free, but they must have a phone that can show video.

Sprint has been trying to reach new customers through broadband-intensive applications such as video, which can be further supported by its Xohm Wimax network, which will debut later this year. The company said last week it expects to report a net loss of about 337,000 subscribers in the third quarter.
