The 30-year sentence for the Jessup man who stabbed to death an acquaintance last year was extended Friday.

Howard Circuit Judge Dennis Sweeney added one more year to Adrian Maldonado’s sentence because he violated probation when he committed the murder, said Wayne Kirwan, spokesman for the Howard State’s Attorney’s Office, on Friday.

Maldonado was on probation for a felony theft and leading police on a car chase in a stolen vehicle in March 2006, according to court records.

A jury found Maldonado, 23, guilty of second-degree murder in May. Maldonado stabbed Marvin Walter Harding, 39, during a November 2006 dispute over a woman outside the Copper Stallion Motel in Elkridge, according to court records.

Howard Circuit Judge Richard Bernhardt issued the original sentence in August for Maldonado’s second-degree murder conviction and denied his motion for a new trial.

Maldonado’s criminal record, including six adult convictions before the age of 22, contributed to his sentencing.
