A juvenile is in police custody this afternoon after threating to “shoot up” Century High School in Eldersburg, a day after a 14-year-old with a history of mental problems shot and wounded four people at a Cleveland high school before killing himself.

All 43 schools in Carroll County were sent into lockdown, preventing anyone from leaving or entering the school. The lock own order was lifted after 1 p.m.

“Under the advice from state police, we switched from code yellow to code orange,” the second highest security level, said Carey Gaddis, schools spokeswoman.

Under the heightened security, staff must return to or stay in buildings, students can travel between portables under staff’s supervision, outside activities are prohibited and administrators must have cell phones on them at all times.

Police would not say whether the juvenile in custody is a student at Centry High School.
