Lou is correct - MoveOn has NO copyright or trademark privileges. Their use of a trademark symbol and subsequent claim of trademark violation is a fraud.

When the Reich-wing RepubliCONs are given a taste of their own medicine they hate it. We know now that the White House tells ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and FNC what is permissible to print and what is not. The goading of the U.S. into war with Iraq was an example of media control--suppressing the liberal POV and free speech in general.

I have to wonder how a political candidate is not allowed to use the entity name of their political antagonist in a political ad. I suppose if she had used "That Move On Organization" vs. Moveon.org, there wouldn't have been any "Copyright" violation. This event reinforces the fact that liberalism cannot flourish unless it can shut down any honest political debate. That's how China controls its populace. Now, remembering that Google is the same service that blocks the average Chinese user from learning much of what that government doesn't want it's citizenry to know I guess we can begin to understand the hollow copyright excuse.

The only way the "left" can win anything is through decete. They will stop at nothing to get control of this country. Those of us that care, need to be aware of these organizations and their backers and make sure they pay.

I noticed the moveon web pages do not have a copyright or trademark notification, except for what appears to be a small "r" symbol next to their slogan. A search of the United States Patent and Trademark Office indicates no registered trademarks for moveon - so how can they claim legal ownership?

The people here asking for "congressional oversight" and "investigation" ought to do a little investigation on their own, along with the journalist who wrote this article. Neither the journalist of this article, nor the people making knee-jerk decisions because of it, have apparently bothered looking into how Google does its advertising. Any trademark owner can contact Google and request that their trademarks not be used in Google's advertising, and request any existing ads pulled from the system. You do not need expressed permission to use a trademark that the holder hasn't requested as blocked, whether favourable or unfavourable to the trademark or the holder of the trademark. That's Google policy, that has always been Google's policy, and that has never been selectively enforced as this joke of a journalist reports. Quit the inane knee-jerk reactions, and take some time to actually get an understanding of what you decide that you're against. Ignoramuses.

The advertisement was pulled because of an entirely valid trademark violation complaint. I don't see the problem, and I certainly don't see any left-wing conspiracies here... Critical of moveon as I may be.

Its probably more about competing dollars. Apparently Moveon.org pays Google fairly continuous large amounts of cash for services. A few one time adds from a single politician can not compete. Moveon.org may have threatened to pull their money. Not that they would want to stop any freedom of speech. However Google will need to be carefull in the future, there are laws regarding equal time/equal advertising. They may find themselves the target of lawsuits and regulatory violations, costing them more than their revenue from Moveon.org.

Google actions are offensive, and their response insulting to my intelligence. So, anyone with a trademark is beyond public criticism? MoveOn specializes in political hatchet jobs. I've removed Google from my search bar and replace it with Yahoo.

Google isn't keeping the information away from anybody, just some ads (which could've been reworded and resubmitted if I read right). You can easily find any right-wing crazy talk you want by using Google's search. It's understandable why Google doesn't encourage libelous back and forthery in it's advertising model. Granted, I personally find it unfair that corporations as big as Google have the power to distort the information we receive, but it's not something Google invented. So now some of you are banning Google. That'll teach 'em. I want to ban NBC for censoring people's opinions on the war during the Emmy's, but the Office is just soooo funny.

Party A submits ad using party B's trademark, party B complains, Google removes ad. Why is this news again?

Trademark Law has a Fair Use doctrine just like Copyright Law (though it's a different doctrine). Using trademarks nominatively IS allowed, so Google definitely is not doing this because they have to. It's possible that their policy is stricter than the actual law. If that's the case, then it's broken and they need to change it. There's no reason for them to hamstring people and companies who want to put up critical or comparative ads.

The observations below seem to emanate from a bunch of tunnel brained right wingers. Google has improved all of your lives and thank god they have a social conscience. History has shown the world moves forward with liberal thinking and is held back by conservatives. Leave Google if you like and watch the world leave you behind.

I find it alarming that media outlets are censoring what they will allow the public to see based on personal or political beliefs, I understand they have the right to deny any client ad space, but I also have the right to stop using their service, and do regularly, I would hate to stop using google, but if they begin a left leaning bias, I will block them. Google has been my preferred search engine for about 8 years. No longer. I think I'll give someone else a try.

Some time ago, MoveOn.org submitted a request to Google that its trademark not be used in any ads, and as a result their advertiser support team offered instructions on how Senator Collins' campaign could edit and resubmit its ad. If ads are running on Google that include trademark terms in their text, either the trademark owner has not submitted a complaint, or the advertiser has been authorized to use the trademark. It's very unfortunate, but it's poorly researched journalism like this that gives a good cause a terribly bad name. Research, research, research BEFORE opening mouth and inserting foot.

Google has been my homepage for years on my home computer, laptop computer and office computer. I am done with them as of now. The only way to make these crazy people understand is to stop doing business with them. Google executives are entitled to their own views, but what hypocrites! Google is running around calling for network neutrality and arguing that we must protect against companies such as Verizon, AT&T, Comcast, and Time Warner censoring the Internet and deciding who can access what. This is a clear violation of Federal Election regulations. Google has in fact become a partner of MoveOn.org, MediaMatters, and most importantly the Democrat Party. Their refusals to allow views that oppose the DNC's candidates and their talking points is repugnant.

The notion that "MoveOn.org" can be trademarked is in error. By setting itself up as a political lobbying organization, MoveOn.org does not enjoy intellectual or trade mark property rights protection. Google's reasoning is false, but they have clearly aligned themselves with the Anti-American slime Soros. But then again, I think George Soros is a commie bastard who ought to be run out of the USA on a rail. Perhaps Senator Collins should replace "MoveOn.org" with "Slimeball Greek Criminal" and see if they still reject the ads.

It is definitely time to delete Google from my search engine choice. Yahoo is the selection for the future. I will also encourage my friends and workplace to delete Google. Freedom of speech continues to be only for the liberals. If you don't speak their language - then don't speak. This smells of biased politics.

As in all things today. politics jump out at you and this crummy little move by GOOGLE shows they don't really care what we, the customer thinks. partial birth abortion should have women in an uproar but not a "WORD". and groups like PETA will scream at killing of a fish but stand by while a doctor (killer) pulls a child partially out of it's mothers womb and rams a needle in it's brain. where can I go to replace GOOGLE. my only way of protesting the far-left crazies in our country is to "NOT BUY" I refuse to watch a Baldwin movie or play a Springstein song. it probably does no good at all but it makes me feel like i'm doing something and my consious is clear. i sleep better at night because of my protest.

I have "Googled" something for the last time. Any links, shortcuts, bookmarks and references to them have been removed from my PC, my wife's PC, my work PC and hopefully anyone I can convince.

Someone earlier indicated that Google was protecting itself from copyright infringement because Collins' site had a copy of MoveOn's ad. To address that point, Google is not responsible for what is on Collins' site because it has not made a copy of anything on Collins' site. Just linking to a site does not open Google up to being sued. Second Collin's use of the ad is likely protected under the fair use exception since she is commenting on MoveOn's ad which Google should know. Google is just plain censoring what it doesn't like.

The liberals and their media "darlings" will never tell the truth. It is an impossible task for them as their lies are far more important to be displayed. The new liberal bias against the truth from the media darlings is going to be a cause for the absolute demise of the United States.

I also do not agree with Google so don't take what I say wrong. Continue using the Google search facilities, they get nothing from it UNLESS you click on a Google sponsored ad. Use the search but DON'T EVER CLICK ON A GOOGLE SUPPLIED AD no matter where it is - that's their money, not the search engine.

Google is a good search engine, but it's not indespensible. There are others just as good, if not as well known. Their political censorship takes Google off my favorites list.

I've been a supporter and fan of google for a number of years. It all stopped today. My google home page, the ad support and anything else google is no longer in my life or on the three computers I own. If they want to be political to the left than I will be political to the right when it come to anything google. If their attitude changes down the road maybe mine will. Being neutral and/or balanced in a business like googles would be to their advantage

It is clear that google is violating fairness in its business operation by giving preferential treatment to those it politically approves. There should be a law against this type of power that does not present both sides of the issue. They must be violating the first amendment.

I am saddened to see that Google is a part of the MoveOn fanatical far left machine. I have deleted everything "Google" from my computer and will use other search engines from now on.
