Article History BALTIMORE (Map, News) - Picking up their tools and getting the job done, Maryland’s first lady, Judge Katie O’Malley, and other female volunteers came together this weekend to kick off construction of Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity’s latest effort in Baltimore City.
Work at 9 North Washington St. is the sixth project taken on by the Chesapeake Habitat chapter under the Women Build initiative. Women Build began nationwide 10 years ago as a way to teach women construction skills and get them involved in building homes for underprivileged families.
“It turned out to be a very popular project; we have a lot of demand,” said Marisa Canino, deputy director of Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity. “They see it as a great way to meet women who have similar interests as they do and to learn some construction skills.”
Canino said most volunteers have little construction experience, though a handful do have professional training. She said volunteers are trained in the specific task they’re assigned on a work-day, rather than trying to tackle multiple, complicated projects.
Construction on Washington Street will continue through February, and volunteers are still needed. Anyone interested in helping out can contact Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity at 410-366-1250.

I see how Politicians end up in so much trouble because reporters don't report what is said. And I quote the Mayor, " When driving down here, I saw a woman on a step, there she is over there, trying to tie her son’s shoe,” Dixon said.” I looked at that woman and I thought how long people here have looked at property like this.”
