Some MUNI bus's have had them on them for years and only a few times have they worked.
A another warmed over failed Muni project that just is a waste of money.
Muni Rider, you are paranoid. The headline simply used a common term to draw attention to the fact that all passengers -- including criminals -- are now being watched on Muni. I took it as being a notice to would-be criminals that they are on camera and being watched.
Your Big Brother headline is a gross misuse of the term. Checking to see if fares are paid, vandalism is avoided and safety is assured is not Big Brother? You might want to parole that headline writer. As a Muni rider, I want cameras and the more the better as I think they protect responsible riders.
I feel a lot safer on most of those buses. Although it doesn't take care of all the unruly trouble makers it certainly helps. I'd rather see more police riding the buses. Let's see how many free loaders and trouble makers there are.
Keep the buses safe, clean and on time and you'll see more riders. I'd rather drive than have to deal with the hooligans on some of the routes.
I have been riding MUNI for 30 years and fortunately never needed the services of cameras. What I have needed and was to often without, was a timely bus to take me where I needed to go.
It angers me that my privacy is at jeopardy because of the irresponsible actions and stupidity of a few. I ride MUNI everyday. I see the vandalism, the fare-jumping, the verbal and physical assaults on drivers and fellow passengers. It is unbelievable and the police are helpless to do anything about it because of the frequency of the acts. Just look at the new hybrid buses recently put into use. Look at the already graffitied-up, scratched windowed buses that cost us all over $600K each. Ride MUNI just once to see what the drivers put up with ANd are unable to control. If the cameras help to make MUNI cleaner and safer, I guess my privacy is going to be decreased when in a public place. So be it. Let's not blame government, MUNI or the cameras for this invasion. Let place the blame in the laps of those who make the cameras necessary.
