It is my understanding San Francisco currently operates under a transit first policy. At least on its face, it would seem giving transit priority over other traffic is in order.

Traffic won't be blocked at all. Locals drive up Franklin and down Cough to reach Market Street anyway. Taking two lanes away from cars won't affect drivers much. In fact, with the elimination of curb bus-stops, and without buses having to enter and exit the lanes, cars won't get stuck behind slow buses that stop every block, and in place of the old bus stop there be more parking.

I agree. Going underground would be faster and safer for all San Franciscians. When it's done, there will be the same amount of traffic lanes and a fast and safe muni (if it's done right) so there will be less incentive to drive. Problem is that then we will hold the union and politicos to a higher standard. Guess that's why they're trying for social engineering instead. Cheaper! It demonstrates the left's bigotry of low expectations.

What about an extension of underground muni option in the poll? just because the local politicians refuse to suggest it, doesn't mean that local citizens shouldn't be demanding it.

22 mintues to ride the lenght of VanNess, big deal. It can take that long to get between Castro and Montgmery on the Metro underground.

I love how the debate is framed "How do you feel about blocking traffic for bus-only lanes?" Makes it sound as though you want to stop cars altogether. Surveys like this are crap. Nonetheless intelligent people are still managing to see through the spin, and as of this moment it is 50/50 split. Imagine the split if it were stated more neutrally (which would be correct) or slanted to favor transit.
