A South San Francisco woman was killed and a Palo Alto man arrested for driving under the influence following a four-car crash on U.S. Highway 101 early Wednesday.

Lily Zeledon, 43, of South San Francisco, was killed in the four-car crash, the San Mateo County Coroner’s office confirmed Wednesday. An autopsy has not yet been performed to determine how she died.

The collision was reported just after 2 a.m. when a 2001 Ford Mustang collided with a 2000 Toyota Celica, in which Zeledon was a passenger. Immediately after, a 1991 Acura Integra crashed into the Mustang, while a 1999 Toyota Camry struck the Celica, said California Highway Patrol Officer Grace Castillo.

Zeledon was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Celica, an unidentified man, was transported to Stanford Medical Center with major injuries.

The driver of the Mustang, a 25-year-old Palo Alto man, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The CHP is not releasing his name because its investigation of the crash is not complete, Castillo said.

Neither he nor his passenger was injured.

The driver of the Acura and the driver of the Camry, both of which were driving alone, sustained moderate injuries and were also taken to Stanford Medical Center, Castillo said.

The crash closed the highway for more than three hours. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call CHP officer Dan Clapp at (650) 369-6261.
