The Warriors re-signed Mickael Pietrus on the eve of training camp beginning in Hawaii.
OAKLAND (Map, News) - Just in the nick of time, Mickael Pietrus has signed on the dotted line.
The restricted free agent, facing a midnight deadline to accept the Warriors’ qualifying offer of one year for $3.47 million, will join the team shortly in Hawaii for training camp, which begins today.
“We’re pleased that we were able to re-sign Mickael,” executive vice president for basketball operations Chris Mullin said in a statement released by the Warriors. “We’ve stated all along this offseason that we like Mickael and what he brings to our team. We look forward to him building on last season and continuing to improve along with the rest of our team.”
Pietrus, 25, was still in his native France on Monday when the Warriors held media day. The 6-foot-6 Pietrus averaged career highs of 11.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 26.9 minutes while playing in a career-best 72 games, including 38 starts.
SIGNING IN: The Warriors signed three players to take with them to training camp on the campus of BYU-Hawaii in Laie: guard Tierre Brown and forwards Pat Burke and Carlos Powell.
Brown, 28, is averaging 3.9 points, 1.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 12.3 minutes in 134 regular-season games over four seasons with Houston, Cleveland, New Orleans and the Los Angeles Lakers. Burke, 33, has put up an average of 3.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 10.2 minutes in 127 regular-season games over three seasons with Orlando and Phoenix. Powell, 24, has played overseas the past two years following his career at South Carolina and played for the Warriors’ summer-league team this year, averaging 4.8 points and 2.0 rebounds in 10.0 minutes per game. The Warriors have 18 players in camp.
