BALTIMORE (Map, News) - Thousands of people are expected in downtown Baltimore today at Edwin F. O’Brien becomes Baltimore’s new archbishop today at 1:30 p.m. at Cathedral of Mary Our Queen.

O’Brien succeeds Cardinal William H. Keeler, archbishop since 1989.

While the Maryland Department of Transportations reports no official road closures, they have advised attendees to plan for traffic. Possible delays are expected before and after the installation.

“The Department’s Special Traffic Enforcement Officers will assist Baltimore City police facilitate parking, but there was no need for road closures or parking restrictions,” spokesperson Adrienne Barnes said.

The STEO’s are already at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen assisting early arrivals.

“We are expecting 2,000 people in attendance,” Director of Communications, Sean Caine said.

A 2 p.m. mass will follow O'Brien’s installation. Caine said he anticipated no protesters at this event.
