Halethorpe (Map, News) - Volunteers are working to improve the trails today at Patapsco Valley State Park to celebrate National Public Lands Day.

“Maryland’s public lands represent some of our state’s most special places and wildlife habitat,” said Gov. Martin O’Malley in a news release from the state Department of Natural Resources.

Volunteers are expected to gather from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 5120 South St., Halethorpe, Baltimore County.

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest volunteer effort and remembers the Civilian Conservation Corps that worked from 1933-42 to protect the environment.
