The problem with “Bug” is that you figure out the punch line about 10 minutes into the film. Ashley Judd stars as a troubled hillbilly with a dead-end job and deadbeat ex-husband. She soon develops a weird romance with Peter (Michael Shannon), a mysterious stranger whose elevator obviously doesn’t go to the floor. When Peter wakes up getting bitten by invisible bugs, Judd’s character doesn’t question it, but accepts it, and soon enough she gets “bitten” by the bugs as well. Much self-mutation ensues. Extras include audio commentary from the director and one making-of featurette; otherwise, there isn’t much here.

DEMONS/DEMONS 2

Master of horror Dario Argento’s and Lamberto Bava’s “Demons” and “Demons 2” have been transferred into a new widescreen digital cut and they look better than ever. “Demons” is the tale of the grand opening of a movie theater where on-screen events create real-life bloodthirsty demons that terrorize the audience. “Demons 2” has the same plot, but it’s set in an apartment building.

Featuring awesome special effects for the time (“Demons” is from 1985; “Demons 2,” 1986), a freaking scary environment and nasty creatures, both films are worthy of any horror aficionado’s collection.

Remember the resolution to who shot J.R. on “Dallas?” Not to give too much away, but let’s just say the Nicolas Cage film “Next” has a similar ending. That’s really bad, given that after spending 96 minutes watching a movie about a low-card magician who has the ability to see two minutes into the future, there’s a point at which everything you’ve just seen basically means squat.

While the film up to that breaking moment isn’t too bad, this set, with a handful of featurettes only available on the HD-DVD version, is a rental at best.
