Harford County authorities have identified the Baltimore City police recruit killed in one of three fatal motorcycle crashes this weekend as Ruben Renta, of Edgewood.

The 33-year-old was speeding and not wearing a helmet when he lost control of his motorcycle, crashing into a road sign on the 2300 block of Hanson Road in Edgewood, according to the Harford Sheriff’s Department.

The accident occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Renta, who was driving a 2002 Honda Sport motorcycle, was scheduled to graduate from the Baltimore City Police Department academy next year.

Just hours earlier in Howard County, a Hagerstown man lost control of his 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle on an exit ramp from eastbound Interstate 70 to Route 94 in Woodbine.

Sam Loper, 55, was taken to Howard County General Hospital just after 5 p.m. Saturday, according to state police, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are investigating the crash.

In Anne Arundel County, a Virginia man died Friday after crashing his motorcycle into a county ambulance in Maryland City.

Police said Gene Anthony Sergent, 20, was traveling east on Route 198 on his 1998 Suzuki Katana when he apparently ran a red light. The ambulance was returning from the Maryland City Shopping Center to its station just across Route 198.

Police said the ambulance, which did not have its emergency lights and sirens on, had the green light when Sergent struck the side of the vehicle.

He was taken to Laurel Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two paramedics received minor injuries from the crash.

On Sunday, the Anne Arundel Fire Department reported another motorcycle accident at Freetown and Spencer roads in Glen Burnie just after 12:30 a.m.

That crash sent a 30-year-old man to the hospital with serious injuries, police said.
