SAN FRANCISCO (Map, News) - The opening of the newly renovated Glen Park Branch Library will be celebrated on Oct. 13 with live music, children's entertainment and a street fair, officials with San Francisco Public Library announced Friday.
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, Supervisor Bevan Dufty and City Librarian Luis Herrera are scheduled to attend the event, which is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
The 8,500-square-foot library will be located on the second floor of the new Glen Park Marketplace structure that also hosts housing units and a grocery store.
Highlights of the new library include children and teen areas, an increased number of computers, wireless Internet access and a more than 40 percent bump in the size of the museum's collection.
The library, which replaces the neighborhood's 1500-square-foot library on Chenery Street, is located at 2825 Diamond St. Opening day festivities will be held in front of the building on Diamond Street, between Bosworth and Chenery streets.
The Glen Park library is the fifth branch to be renovated under the Branch Library Improvement Program, funded by a $105.9 million bond measure passed by voters in Nov. 2000.

No wonder the City is in so sorry shape. The mayor is always out chasing the cameras. Does he ever stay in his office and work on City problems?
