Washington DC (Map, News) - Tuesday marks the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that resulted in the deaths of nearly 3,000 people, including 184 at the Pentagon. There will be a number of observances in the Washington area throughout the day.

> The National Cathedral September 11th Commemoration: Beginning with an 8 a.m. interfaith remembrance led by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the National Cathedral will devote the entire day to the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks. The tolling of the Bourdon Bell will mark the exact moment of each attack. Beginning at 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., every hour on the hour, a portion of the list of victims’ names will be read, followed by a musical selection and a silent time for prayer and reflection. No tickets are required to the event at the Cathedral and using public transportation is advised as parking is extremely limited.

> Arlington Commemorative Observance: The remembrance will begin at 9:15 a.m. at the Arlington County Justice Center Courtyard, 1245 N. Courthouse Rd., Arlington, VA. At 9:37, the moment American Airlines Flight 77 hit the Pentagon, there will be a moment of silence followed by the ring of a bell for each of the 184 victims.

> Pentagon Memorial Observance: Secretary of Defense Robert Gates will host a private wreath laying ceremony at 9:30 a.m. for the family members of those who died in the attack on the Pentagon.
