Alexandria (Map, News) - Government contractor MPRI is relocating its headquarters from Old Town Alexandria to an office building near the Braddock Road Metro station, a move the city hopes will stimulate growth in the area.

MPRI, which provides training and simulation services to military and law enforcement clients, has had its main offices in Old Town since being formed in 1987.

It is a subsidiary of L-3 Communications, a New York company that provides a number of technical services to public- and private-sector clients. The move, expected to take place by the end of the summer, consolidates the company’s regional offices.

Its 250 area employees will take up 126,000 square feet of office space.

“MPRI will be a great addition to the Braddock Road Metro area, and we appreciate the investment and employment they continue to contribute to the Alexandria economy,” Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille said.

The company’s move to the area is part of the city’s Braddock Road Metro Station Area Plan.

The city is attempting to lure businesses in the hopes of spurring development around Braddock Road similar to what it has experienced by the King Street Metro.
