The proposed 2006-07 budget of just more than $18.5 million for the Town of Vienna includes a real estate tax rate of 18.62 cents per $100 of assessed value, down from 22 cents under the current spending plan.

The rate reduction represents a cut of 15.36 percent, to some degree offsetting rising real estate assessments and tax bills.

If an individual property assessment goes up 18 percent or less, there will be a reduction in the tax bill.

“Our rate last year qualified as a true decrease in property taxes, and our proposal this year meets the definition of no effective tax rate increase,” said Town Manager John H. Schoeberlein. “Other than a modest increase in our water and sewer service fees, no increases in any other fees or taxes are proposed in this budget.”
