In 1999, voters authorized The City to replace the aging hospital with a more modern facility, including skilled nursing beds and assisted-living units. Construction cost-overruns have prompted a re-examination of the original project and options are laid out in the study.

A community meeting about the study will be held Monday at 2 p.m., in Room 300 of the Department of Public Health, located at 101 Grove St.

Youth summer beautification program comes to an end

The Department of Public Works has wrapped up a six-week-long summer program with about 60 youths who learned about city maintenance and beautification — they cleaned Monster Park, planted shrubs and trees on Van Ness Avenue and removed debris and dead trees from Sunset Boulevard.

The participants, ages 16 to 24, also attended presentations on a variety of issues, including landscape architecture, community greening and irrigation, during the program, which was held in conjunction with the Mission Neighborhood Center.

Talk to discuss health care’s impact on small businesses

The Chamber of Commerce will be holding a conference to discuss local health insurance mandates with small-business owners. During the conference, The City’s Health Access Program and options for insuring employees will be discussed. In July, The City rolled out its new health care program to provide affordable health care to all San Franciscans — created through legislation authored by Supervisor Tom Ammiano and backed by Mayor Gavin Newsom.

The conference will take place today from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at 235 Montgomery St.
