D.C. police are investigating an attempted burglary of a bank in which a half-naked suspect entered the offices through the ceiling.

A cleaning crew was working inside the M&T Bank, 2865 Alabama Ave., at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when they were startled to find a man wearing nothing but black boxer shorts and a white blazer jacket, Capt. Michael Reese said. The man ran into the manager’s office and out onto the roof while the cleaning crew scrambled out of the building, police said. The man escaped the way he came in, through the one-story building’s roof, where police found some clothing and burglar’s tools, Reese said. Police did not find any identification in the clothes.

“He seemed to have intimate knowledge of the layout,” Reese said.

The man apparently also used the ceiling to enter and ransack a restaurant next door, taking an undisclosed amount of cash, Reese said.
