Harford County, MD (Map, News) - Close to 3,000 people were still without power in Harford County this morning after swirling winds and chunks of hail toppled trees and ripped down power lines in Monday night’s storm, according to Baltimore Gas & Electric.
The National Weather Service warned that the fierce wind gales might also materialize in the form of a tornado Monday night, and there were unconfirmed reports that one had touched down near Fallston Middle School.
Motorists caught up in the genesis of the storm at rush hour Monday night were warned to stay out of their cars and seek refuge, away from flying debris. Residents were also told to seek basements and avoid and windows.
BGE crews were still working to assess the damage and restore power to the area this morning. Scattered debris and fallen trees can often make it difficult for utility crews to restore power as quickly as possible.
There also were patches of about 300 people still without power in Baltimore County as well, BGE said in a statement.
Weather experts predict a slight chance of afternoon showers today. Otherwise, it should remain partly cloudy, humid and hot.
