Republican Tom Davis leads the pack in second-quarter fundraising among Northern Virginia congressmen, with just more than a million dollars on hand at the end of June, according to campaign finance reports posted online Monday. Davis is officially running for an eighth term representing District 11 but has expressed interest in seeking Sen. John Warner’s seat should the aging GOP legislator opt not to seek another term next year. The congressman raised $402,361 since April 1 and spent $187,368.

The updated reports were posted Monday on Congressional Quarterly’s PoliticalMoneyLine (FECinfo.com), which compiles Federal Election Commission data. Warner has not yet announced his intentions for 2008, despite rampant speculation of his impending retirement fueled recently by reports of languid fundraising. His latest fundraising data was not available online, though the National Journal’s Hotline political blog reported last week the senator raised $71,000 in the second quarter of 2007, with $734,000 on hand.

“Our committee is still Tom Davis for Congress,” Davis Campaign manager Nick Meads said. “People are contributing to Tom’s re-election campaign.”

Meanwhile, in the neighboring District 10, Democrat Judy Feder is taking another run at Rep. Frank Wolf, a Republican. Mirroring her fundraising success last year, Feder had $114,403 on hand by the end of June, nearly all of which was raised that month, campaign spokesman Luke McFarland said. But only about a dozen of Feder’s about 150 named contributors this quarter reside within District 10, according to FEC data. Wolf’s campaign attacked Feder last year for relying heavily on out-of-state contributions. Wolf, who had a far larger proportion of in-district contributors, outpaced Feder in 2007’s second quarter, raising $166,334 to end up with $184,501 on hand. Rep. Jim Moran, D-District 8, raised $212,838 last quarter and ended with $696,530 in hand.
