NORTH EAST, Md. (Map, News) - A 30-year-old Elkton man faces homicide charges following his arrest this morning in connection with the death of his father.

State police said Eugene Francis Pritchard Jr., 30, was awaiting arraignment on charges of killing his father, 69-year-old Eugene Francis Pritchard of North East, after the elder Pritchard was found in the wreckage of a van early this morning.

Troopers responding to a 911 call of a single-vehicle crash in the 800 block of Nottingham Road in Elkton found the elder Pritchard inside a van that had crashed into a tree in the front yard of a house.

Witnesses told troopers they saw what appeared to be an altercation inside the van after the crash and saw a man fleeing the scene, police said in a news release.

The younger Pritchard was taken into custody a short time later. His father was taken to Elkton Union Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Troopers are not releasing the nature of the injuries suffered by the elder Pritchard. They also said they are trying to determine the cause of the argument that apparently led to the fight.
