GREENBELT, Md. (Map, News) - NASA is breaking ground today in a new Exploration Science building at its Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt.
The three-story office and laboratory building, designed to meet strict green-building guidelines, will be built by Manhattan Construction Co. of Fairfax, Va.
U.S. Reps. Stoney Hoyer and Albert Wynn, both Maryland Democrats, are expected to be on hand for this morning's ceremonies, as well as Greenbelt Mayor Judith Davis.
NASA is spending $54 million on the project, but it could cost as much as $56 million if all building options are included, the space agency said in a statement.
It is the first new buidling in NASA's Goddard master plan.
