Tired of the Ed Jew pile-on
Bravo to Arthur Bruzzone for his excellent article regarding Supervisor Ed Jew (“Watching the Ed Jew pile-on unfold,” Viewpoints, July 11). It is very interesting that so many politicos are engaging in the pile-on.
Apparently, people in this town don’t appreciate leaders with integrity. I, too, question the witch hunt — it’s another San Francisco soap opera unfolding, with an embattled hero against the evil Board of Supervisors. Jew should feel great — he must be doing many things right to warrant such backstabbing and a rush to forgo justice. Last time I checked, in this country we are innocent until proven guilty. Or are we really under a socialist reign with this current board of egomaniacs who call themselves elected officials?

Apparently the water department doesn’t bill for usage under 748 gallons a month, which I take to mean that a household could use up to that amount without record.
If one were out of the house for 18 hours a day; if one didn’t eat, shower, do laundry, dishes, garden, or wash the dog, cat or car at this place of residence, would it be possible to hold water usage to less than 25 gallons a day? Two flushes on that required low-flush toilet comes to 3.2 gallons, allowing margin enough to brush one’s teeth and water the cactus.
We will need that helpful employee at the water department to provide the billing for the other 10 members of the board, and for the mayor, too. Or perhaps columnist Ken Garcia would like to take on the experiment for yet another Ed Jew column.

If Ed Jew is exonerated and it turns out he was unfairly gang-tackled, as many supporters claim, then this piling-on strategy will really be a gamble that misfired. Jew wins big, very big. A favorable outcome for Jew would give him the stature and recognition to challenge the status quo in the upcoming mayoral race.

Intolerance for Supervisor Ed Jew’s politics is to blame for the concerted effort to remove him from office, not racism.
Racism alone could never generate the hatred that underlies Jew’s condemnation by our special-interest-controlled office holders. Racism was never charged by Jew’s attorneys — it was alleged by your reporters from a sentence taken out of context.
Intolerance for Jew’s lifestyle is obvious to everyone who doesn’t live the Mayberry existences that your paper would have us believe is the standard.

Clean up city
Let me see if I get this straight: There are people who actually oppose getting rid of gangs? Just how crazy can you get?
I walk down Market Street everyday and see gang members, drug dealers, prostitutes, the homeless and people with severe mental illnesses.
These are people who either need to be taken off the streets, most to prison, or taken to long-term hospitals for treatment. Since when is it OK to break the law, terrorize people and be a threat to the public?
People who continually break the law should not be allowed to continue their illegal actions. This is the only way to make The City safe for the law-abiding people who call this great city home.
How many millions have been spent over the last 30 years to clean up the streets only to have these thugs screw things up again?

Pardon politics
I can’t believe how many people want to downplay the commuting of Scooter Libby’s sentence and likelihood of a pardon by comparing it to the actions of previous presidents such as Nixon and Clinton. The actions of these men are in the past, and obviously looked at now as mistakes.
Just because a previous president did something similar, or worse, doesn’t mean it’s OK or any less of a slap in the face to the American people now. This is a futile argument. Let’s learn from our mistakes instead of repeating them.

Size of Houston
Wednesday’s editorial (“Cracks in Bay Area success model,” July 11), with its comparison to “uncool Houston, the nation’s sixth largest city,” could be labeled “Cracks in the Examiner editorial.”
Sorry, guys, Houston has been the nation’s fourth largest city since, I believe, 1990. What you may have been referring to is the rate of growth.
The big news in the most recent U.S. Census data was that Phoenix had replaced Philadelphia as the nation’s fifth largest city — Houston was still the fourth largest.
