The Orioles fired then-manager Sam Perlozzo two weeks ago, and with interim skipper Dave Trembley at the helm, Baltimore has gone 6-5 through Sunday’s game.

The winning record since the managerial shuffle is a step in the right direction, away from the 2-13 skid that led to Perlozzo’s dismissal. Is there, however, a tangible change in the Orioles as a team? Trembley said the answer is yes.

“I attribute that to attitude and respect for the game and doing things right and playing as a team,” Trembley said Sunday after the Orioles 4-3 loss to the Angels.

That game was the 17th one-run loss for Baltimore this season. But despite the defeat Trembley was optimistic in how the Orioles stayed in the game.

“You’re seeing guys playing as a team and giving each other and the game respect,” Trembley said. “If you don’t see it, we’re all walking with blinders on. These guys are playing the right way.”

Looking ahead toward the rest of the season, Trembley believes the team is beginning to lay the groundwork for the future, and do the things necessary in order to win. He is not alone either.

“We are just trying to win games,” outfielder Jay Payton said. “Now we feel like we have the pieces to get it done.”

Trembley might just be seeing the respect for the game and the winning pieces coming together recently, but rookie pitcher Jeremy Guthrie has never felt a lack of support from his teammates this year.

“It is always good to support and be supported and we have always done a good job since day one,” Guthrie said. “No matter how bad it was going we always congratulated each other and were pulling for each other.”

Playing .500 baseball is not where Trembley wants the Orioles to be, but greater success for the team will take time. The manager can already see progress.

“I see the team playing the game the way is supposed to be played and winning the fans back here in Baltimore and being proud to be a Baltimore Oriole,” Trembley said.
