A Capitol Fourth — Concert
8 to 9:30 p.m; West Lawn of the
U.S. Capitol; fireworks begin at
9:10 p.m. and finish at 9:30 p.m.;
also airs live on PBS 8 - 9:30 p.m.
Featuring the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductor Erich Kunzel and performances by several popular artists. The finale includes a riveting rendition of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture coupled with live cannon fire provided by the U.S. Army Presidential Salute Battery.
The National Archives celebrates July Fourth
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Patriotic music. A dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence will take place from 10 to 11. There will also be free family activities and entertainment for all ages.

Dale City’s Fourth of July Parade
Lineup is at 9 a.m. and the parade starts at 10 a.m.; Kirkdale Drive and Dale Boulevard to Gemini Way
There will be a family fun day at the Center Plaza commuter lot after the parade ends. Gov. Tim Kaine will be in attendance as well as several other local politicians.
The Potomac Nationals celebrate Independence Day

Activities will include children’s games and a musical concert with Cletus Kennelly and Lori Kelley beginning at 7:30 p.m. The viewing areas will be at the front of the school on the baseball field and at the Newport Mill Middle School. Since there will be no parking on site at either school or at adjacent properties — except for handicapped parking — shuttle buses will pick up passengers, beginning at 6:15 p.m., at Westfield Wheaton and Wheaton Metro. The city of Alexandria is celebrating America’s and its own birthday in grand style the Saturday after July Fourth.
The event includes children’s activities, a concert performed by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, birthday cake and a fireworks show.
