Apples from China
American apple growers are becoming increasingly anxious about the prospect of China flooding the U.S. market with their apples, even though it still could be years away. Believing it’s inevitable China meets U.S. standards, they are pressing for additional federal funding in the 2007 farm bill to develop technologies to make apple-harvesting less costly, and aid to develop overseas markets. Some also want the government to force all apples to carry a sticker stating the country of origin.
