Police arrested Michael Paul Martin, 28, of the 200 block of Allwood Drive, at his residence Thursday evening and charged him with first- and second-degree murder in the death of Phillip Calvin Airey Jr., 36, of the 6600 block of Rapid Water Way.
Police also applied for first- and second-degree murder warrants against Robert Edward Speake, 18, of the 4900 block of Brookwood Road, in Brooklyn, in connection with Airey’s death.
Anne Arundel County firefighters found Airy’s body in the trunk of a red Geo Prizm just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, after putting out flames in and around the car, police said.
Airey’s body was transported to State Medical Examiner’s officer for an autopsy. His death was ruled a homicide on Thursday.
Police believe Airey left a bar on Curtis Avenue late Monday night or early Tuesday morning and went to a Baltimore residence on the 4800 block of Pennington Avenue, where he got into a fight with the two suspects and was killed.
Police executed a search warrant this morning to recover any physical evidence from the scene.
Martin was also wanted in Anne Arundel County for failing to appear in district court on an unrelated drug charge, police said.
Maryland State Police are asking that anyone with information about Speake’s whereabouts to contact the Glen Burnie Barrack at 410 761-5130.
