The Board of Supervisors is expected to vote Tuesday on a labor contract with San Francisco Police Officers Association, which grants a 23 percent salary hike during a four-year period.

The contract, which would go into effect July 1, covers about 2,599 positions, which cost The City about $263 million in salary and benefits. In the first year of the contract, city costs would increase by $9.3 million.

The Board of Supervisors will vote on the labor contract on Tuesday, at 2 p.m., at City Hall, Room 250.

BART

New ridership record set following concert, ballgame

BART set a new ridership record Wednesday, breaking its top performance set just six weeks ago after the collapse of the MacArthur Maze.

BART carried 381,200 passengers Wednesday, which officials attribute to The Police concert at McAfee Coliseum and the San Francisco Giants interleague game against Toronto. Wednesdays are typically the busiest days for the transit agency.

On May 1, the day after a gasoline tanker exploded on southbound Interstate 880, BART carried 375,000 riders who wanted to avoid the resulting traffic congestion and detours.

While BART’s previous record was at 374,900 riders Oct. 4, 2000, the agency’s average weekday ridership is 340,000 passengers.
