Prince George’s County’s Redevelopment Authority will have two new faces if County Executive Jack Johnson has his way.

In addition to nominating Jerry Russell and Victor Njowusi for positions on the seven-member authority, Johnson is also seeking the reappointment of Lanard Geddings and Giovanna Vannall to three-year terms.

“They are all excellent candidates,” Johnson’s Chief of Staff Michael Herman said. “And they are all deserving of appropriate consideration and confirmation.”

According to the county Web site, the Redevelopment Authority’s core mission is to “develop, redevelop, revitalize and preserve targeted properties.”

The authority puts a particular emphasis on work force housing, commercial and retail development and transit-oriented development projects, the Web site says.

Russell worked as an information technology specialist in the federal government for 30 years. The Suitland resident retired from government in 1999 and now works as a real estate agent. He is a member of the Skyline Hills Homeowners Association.

“I think I have a lot to offer,” Russell said.

Njowusi also has an IT background with more than 15 years’ experience in the field. He is a database administrator for Lockheed Martin and has a bachelor’s degree in computer science.

“People who have information technology [backgrounds] can be very useful in redevelopment stuff,” Herman said. “Particularly when you talk about area wide networks.”

Geddings, a Fort Washington resident, has a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering from North Carolina A&T and a master of business administration degree from Central Michigan.

“I think I hold a unique position on the board,” Geddings said, “in that I have a degree in architectural engineering, so I can dabble with why is that there, and I have an MBA, so I can look at it from a business point of view.”

Vannall works at Heartland Hospice as chaplain and has a bachelor’s degree in esoteric Christianity. She lives in Lanham.

The council held a public hearing on the candidates last week and will vote on them June 19, Herman said.
