Havre de Grace, Md. (Map, News) - Se Ri Pak is feeling a little bit older. But she's not old.

“I say it's not that old, but different from a couple years ago,” Pak said. “I'm still pretty good, in good shape.”

At 30, Pak enters today just one round from becoming a member of the LPGA Hall of Fame. Provided she doesn't bow out of today's second round of the McDonald's LPGA Championship at Bulle Rock, she'll accomplish that goal by this evening. Shortly after shooting a 1-over-par 73 Thursday, she was greeted in the media tent with balloons and confetti, as LPGA commissioner Carolyn F. Bivens congratulated her on her career accomplishment.

“It makes me nervous,” said Pak, who learned earlier this year that the LPGA Championship would be her 10th event — the one to qualify her for golf immortality.

Pak is the defending champion at Bulle Rock, something that she calls “pretty special.”

“It's very exciting, but I don't know, just kind of feel weird,” she said. “It's like my dreams coming true.”

Pak, a native of South Korea, said reaching the Hall of Fame was her biggest goal in coming to the United States. She claims last year's LPGA Championship as the greatest win in her career.

“It's great coming back from all the way behind and have a chance to win and won it — a great shot on the last shot and won in a playoff,” Pak said.

The shot Pak spoke of was her second on the 18th hole — the first, and only, playoff hole with runner-up Karrie Webb. Pak hit a 4-iron within inches of the pin, solidifying her third LPGA Championship and a place in Bulle Rock lore.

“I know that it's something I probably never will forget,” Pak said. “Even the people out here — fans, media — just keep talking about that shot, even now.”

Pak agreed that it was a great shot, but doesn't plan to repeat it.

“I don't think I'm going to do that again,” Pak said, laughing. “But I'm trying to make an easier way.”

Pak won the 2002 LPGA Championship at DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, Del., by three shots over Beth Daniel. In 1998, she won the tournament at the same location and by the same margin over Donna Andrews and Lisa Hackney.

Pak will start on the 10th tee at 12:59 this afternoon, in search of her sixth major title.

Does anyone know anything about Kevin Dunleavy? If he's from Texas and about 29 then I think I was friends with him in high school (Klein). If anyone would know how to get in touch with him, that would be great. I tried calling but the lady I talked to didn't know anything about him. bronwen.iuen@gmail.com

Mr.Dunleavy-A Baltimore boy, Church Waesche, won the 16-17 division of the Gorin on his 16th birthday and was the runner up in the Bobby Bowers last week. Any reason you continue to focus on the Washington region golfers instead of the Baltimore boys?

Michelle should just be Michelle. A pro golfer and a college student. Break away from parental, sponsor, present managment domination and what the LPGA wants. Find her groove make her own decisions and RELAX! At 17 going on to 18 you are considered a young adult. It's time to break away from the nest and feel the air flutter her wings.
