Gun-toting teen brings school lockdown

GLEN BURNIE, Md. (Map, News) - Marley Middle School is on lockdown after a gun-toting teenager was seen near the campus earlier this morning. The school doors will remain closed with no access in or out of the building, said Tony Ruffin, spokesman for the Anne Arundel County school system. There will be no outdoor activities and classes will proceed normally inside the school, he said.

County police said a young black male was seen brandishing an handgun just before 8 a.m. at Marley Neck Boulevard and Spencer Road, about a half-mile west of the school. Police have canvassed the area, but have yet to find the teenager.

Parents were notified by a phone message system that the school was on lockdown. No one is allowed to leave or enter the school until the lockdown is lifted.

Nearby Marley Elementary School and Marley Glen Special School are being patrolled by police but are not on lockdown, officials said.

Just to let everyone know, the name of the school has nothing to do with the students who attend it. I'm not saying we are dumb because we surely are not, but it is a regular public school, with regular students.

Honey, I hope you meant that you need to turn the violence off entirely....not just save it for after school. You need to survive long enough th get out of high school and get into college so you can getaway from that stuff. You have more power than you know. DEMAND that security be airtight in your school. Your family and your friend's' families have paid for the right for you to be able to go to school and get a good education without having to watch your back in the bathrooms. Stand up for your rights and take your school back! They think that because you have no vote you have no voice and no power. Prove them wrong!

So how many background checks did these "kids" go through, did they have to wait 14 days to be "not disapproved"? Legal handguns in the hands of law abiding citizens have never been the problem, but politicians always go after them instead of criminals, drug lords and gangs.

A young black male brandishing a handgun...not to worry, I'm sure he is over 21 (he must just look young), passed a background check, waited 7 days and has a Maryland Concealed Firearms permit. He is not at all likely to have gotten that gun illegally, be involved in a gang or drug activity and I'm sure he is a level-headed ,well educated, upstanding member of the community. And if he isn't all these things, on the "bright" side, he hasn't killed anybody *yet*. And even if he does kill someone later, it is all the fault of President Bush and the Iraq War rather than 40 years of one party politics in Maryland.
