After a day and a half of deliberations, a Carroll Circuit Court jury found a Westminster man guilty of first-degree felony murder Thursday — the first murder in Carroll in more than three years.

Shawn Anthony Jones, 29, now faces the possibility of life in prison without parole for fatally shooting Donnie Bowman, 43, of Westminster, and wounding Lamont Dew, 39, of Baltimore, as they sat in a car parked behind Little Jay’s convenience store in Westminster after 8 p.m. on Dec. 7, 2005.

“Justice has been served,” said Bowman’s sister, Phyllis Cook, who cried in court as the jury read its verdict.

Prosecutor David Daggett praised the findings as “absolutely appropriate.”

“I’m very glad that Donnie Bowman’s family can put this part behind them,” he said.

Jones also was found guilty of second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, attempted second-degree murder, kidnapping, attempted armed robbery, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, carrying a dangerous weapon with intent to injure and possession of a firearm.

Dew told police he believed he was the intended target because he owed Jones $500 for cocaine that turned out to be bad.
